The 1927 American Legion Department of Alabama Convention was held in Foley on August 22nd thru August 24th, which was the largest State Convention ever held by the Legion. At this convention, Edward L. Murray, Post Commander, was elected a State Vice-Commander. Later, he became the fourteenth (14th) Department Commander.

All Veterans in Baldwin County who were members of the American Legion were members of Baldwin County Post 99 as it was the only Post in the County. It's membership was fairly large and presented some hardship for some members who had to travel long distances to attend meetings. In 1937, Dr. C.O. Godard, the Post 99 Commander, from Fairhope purchased a large two story house on Highway 98, (now Old Hwy 98 Scenic Drive)..

On October 25, 1949, Baldwin Post 99 became the legal owner of approximately three (3) acres of certain and real property in Baldwin County, which is located on the east side of Highway 59 South, which is a two (2) lane highway just south of the Foley City limits. It will take approximately 2 and 1/2 years to complete construction of the third (3) post home for Post 99.

An addition was added to the main structure on the south side of the building in line with the north side and the roof line was kept the same to maintain balance. A brick sign, being in front of the property, negated the reason for a sign on the building and it was removed, an attic vent was installed and some windows were changed as well. The pictures show the modifications done in 1954.

FIRE DESTROYS LEGION POST 99 IN FOLEY

A fire destroyed Baldwin Post 99's third (3rd) home on Saturday, July 19th, 1992 at approximately 3:00 PM. The building was a total loss and appeared to have started in the attic. No one was injured in the fire, but the loss of the building, its contents, and the heartache felt by each member cannot be measured. Very little was recovered from the ashes.

The newly constructed home for Baldwin County American Legion Post 99 was dedicated today, February 27th, 1993 at the Post home on Highway 59 South. The Dedication Speech was given by Mr. Andrew Cooper from Post 44 in Gulf Shores, with eighty-six (86) Members and guests present. Following the Dedication speech, dinner was served to all in the big hall.

After a pad designed and built to dimensions furnished by the U.S. Army Depot, Post 99's new tank exhibit was delivered by U.S. Army transport on the evening of August 28th, 1996. Led by Police escort, the U.S. Army lowboy with tank aboard, was offloaded in late evening to prevent interference with Post operations. The U.S. Army transport departed Post 99 on August 29th, 1996. The U.S. Army tank remains in that position today, joined..
