All Veterans in Baldwin County who were members of the American Legion were members of Baldwin County Post 99 as it was the only Post in the County. It's membership was fairly large and presented some hardship for some members who had to travel long distances to attend meetings.
In 1937, Dr. C.O. Godard, the Post 99 Commander, from Fairhope purchased a large two story house on Highway 98, (now Old Hwy 98 Scenic Drive) in Fairhope and donated it to Post 99.
Following that, two (2) meetings per month were held: The 2nd Tuesday of the month was in Foley and the 4th Tuesday of the month was in Fairhope. This arrangement helped with some distance driving problems.
