June of 1943, Shelby O'Brien Post 326 sent its first young junior men from Shelby High School.  The junior men attended Buckeye Boys State held at Ohio Wesleyan University in Delaware, Ohio.     Those young men were then members of the graduating class of 1944.   These numbers of students is a wonderful reflection for the community of Shelby and the role The American Legion plays in our community!

New Post 326 Home Dedication and Appreciation, September 10, 1977.

The new O'Brien Post 326 Home was open for its dedication on September 10, 1977. Cocktail hour was held 5:30 to 6:30 with a buffet dinner at 6:30 to 7:30.  At 7:30 to 9:00PM the dedication ceremony was held with Toastmaster RUSSELL CHEW with remarks and speaker JAMES E. FRIDAY.  Members were encouraged to attend through invitations sent by Commander MERLIN KING.  A dance followed from 9:00 until Midnight!

POST CANTEEN IS CLOSED

On Monday March 16, 2020, the Post Cantreen was closed along with meetings, dinners and events due to the novel Corona Virus, COVID-19.  The March 17, 2020 OHIO Primary election was postponed that night, putting the election off until April 28, by absentee ballot only.

POST CANTEEN CLOSED FOR FIRE AND WATER DAMAGE FOR 20 MONTHS AND DID NOT RE-OPEN UNTIL MAY 13, 2023.

Fire call early around 1:48 AM on Wednesday morning September 15, 2021.  The Chief explained a fire was contained to the canteen area of The American Legion.  The department was on the scene for about an hour.  It was reported there was light fire and smoke damage, with moderate water damage.  The Board opened the canteen on Saturday May 13, 2023.  A tremendous amount of the work was done by several staff members after ongoing..
