About This Post

Notable Members

Richard H Stafford.  Dick Stafford was deeply involved in working on behalf of veterans and helped create the Woodbury Community Foundation and worked to establish the city ambulance service. He was an original member of Post 501 and was active in the Woodbury Lions and food shelf. His most visible legacy is the Woodbury library which carries his name.

 

William Krueger was a charter member of the Post and Woodbury's first City Clerk.  He is also credited with 

 

held the Post together during the tough times by holding down the offices of Commander, Chaplain & Finance Officer simultaneously.  There's little doubt that the Post would be non-existent today were it not for him.

Woodbury American Legion Post 501 Established

The Woodbury American Legion Post 501 was charted on January 11, 1979.  The post was formed as the growth of the City of Woodbury showed a need to increase support of veterans in the area.   The first officers were:  Mayard Flom, Post Commander; Bill England, first Vice Commander; Harry Southward, Second Vice Commander; Irwin R. Idso, Thrid Vice Commander; Chuck Swanson, Finance Officer; William Kruger, Veteran's service Officer.  The charter was presented at Captain..

Following the Woodbury High School Veterans Day ceremony on November 8, 2018, Woodbury American Legion Post 501 Vice Commander Dale Johnson presented a check for $1000 to Major (retired) Thom Petzold, Senior Aerospace Science Instructor for the AFJROTC program.  Major Petzold and MSgt Kathy Cotto, JROTC instructor were presented Pavers for the Woodbury Veterans Memorial by Woodbury American Legion..
