Comander's Report - Very pleased that our Post has increased its Legion Projects activities, as well as Veteran Hospital visitations. I reported the caravan to Gainesville last month. A second visitation, this time over to Lake City, is scheduled for April 19th. Another trip to Lake City Hospital, for Bingo is scheduled for April 19th. More to follow later. Commanders Report - As reported to you earlier in the year the property appraiser's office raised the valuation of the land and our Post Home to a whopping $63,800 and we paid a tax of $1,120.66. We arranged a meeting with Mr. Harold H, Prickett, Supervisor, Exempt Department to look into the situation and see what could be done. On 03 June 2017 American Legion Post 283 hosted the 5th District Commander's Dinner. Current Commander Fred Mathews was present as well as many Past Commanders and Auxillary Presidents. Working together Both 5th District Vice Commander Troy Horsley and 5th District Auxillary President Robin Walker both of American Legion Post 283 planned the event.

After the Boys had visited Talahassee and returned their families were invited to the post to hear about their experiences while attending. The Girls State representatives were also present. The event was put together by the current 3rd Vice Commander Lena Null-Wood and past 3rd Vice Commander Martha Nelson working in conjunction with the Auxillary Girls State Chairmperson Peggy Miller.

The Auxillary held the annual Children's Christmas Party. Santa was escorted to the post by the 283 Legion Riders Chapter in his sleigh provided by the Jacksonville Sherrif's Office driven by Officer Tonya Seymour.
