On 10/31/2015, Posts #144 and #145 jointly hosted the District 11 Fall Festival BBQ at the Saguaro Ranch Park in Glendale, Arizona. It was the first time in 10-years that the District had held such an event and all credit for the success of the event was given to Posts #144 and #145. We had approximately 30 youth attend the event where the Posts handed out safety bracelets and wands to the youth to keep..

During the December general meeting, Paula Burr (Teacher) and Emily Gillaspy (Student) of the Veteran’s Heritage Project (VHP) stopped by to do a presentation about the program to the members attending the meeting. Our point of contact (POC) for the program, Joe Dellamarggio, Senior Vice-Commander scheduled the presentation. We had a wonderful time hearing about how students interview Veterans and later put their interviews and stories into the books each year that are eventually shown..

The Adjutant announced that Joe had just completed the American Legion Extension Institute Course on-line. Commander Kobojek awarded Joe his graduation certificate for completing the course. Joe explained that he learned more than he ever thought he would about the Legion and he was surprised to discover everything the Legion has done. He encouraged other members to complete the course and related that it was worth the $4.95 to take the course.

Post 144 Recognizes JROTC Cadets during Award Ceremonies

During the month of May, Commander Stan Kobojek and Adjutant Dan Palmer attended JROTC award ceremonies at the three high schools (Sandra Day O'Connor, Deer Valley, and Cactus) that the Post supports throughout the year. Each Cadet was recognized with medals and pins, a certificate, and check for $150.00. Commander Kobojek presented the awards.

Post 144 Accomplishes Its First Gun Raffle Event

On June 6th the Post had its drawing for the gun raffle. Our 1st Place winner was Barbara Bajus who selected the Glock .45 caliber semi-automatic handgun. Our 2nd Place winner was Mike Sullivan who won $300.00 and our 3rd Place winner was our Past-Commander Stan Kobojek who won $100.00. Be on the look-out for the next one, because I heard it had something to do with barbequing, smoking or drying meat. Maybe it will..
