In March of 1974 a temporary charter was granted to Commander C.E. Farrar and Adjutant F.V. Cannon for the formation of Post 626 in Gladstone, Department of Missouri. Gladstone itself was relatively new, organizing in 1952.
A permanent charter was issued to Post 626 under Commander Bobby Watts and Adjutant Don Austin in June of 1975.
A resolution was made to rename the Post to Bennett & Dennis Herrick Memorial American Legion Post 626

Post 626 joins with city and VFW to sponsor the exhibit "Remembering Our Fallen" at the Community Center.
Post 626 and VFW Post 10906 donate a flag pole to the city for the Big Shoal Cemetery and dedicated it during a ceremony on the 24th of May.

In early 2014 Legionnaire Patty Ford Ivey asked for the Posts help in getting her relatives Navy Cross upgraded to a Medal of Honor (posthumas) as well as being recognized as a POW before his death. Post 626 takes on some of the responsibilities of maintaining and fundraising for the Clay County Veterans Memorial.
Captain Shawn Rulon was recommended for the Legion's Firefighter/EMT award by Post 626 and won at the Department level.
After taking responsibility of the Clay County Veterans Memorial the Committee responsible for the project audited the records and found that several service members from our latest conflict had not yet been added and immediately set out to rectify the situation.
The Post held a wreath laying ceremony at the Clay County Veterans Memorial to honor those service members who were just added to the memorial.
On Veterans Day several Post and Honor Guard members, along with Honor Guard members of Post 58 from Smithville participated in the ceremony designating Clay County as a Purple Heart County.

In a significant legislative victory for The American Legion, President Trump signed the LEGION Act on July 30th that declares the United States has been in a state of war since Dec. 7, 1941. Commander Millison attended the National Convention held in Indianapolis IN and carried the Post Colors in the parade. The Posts only known parade marker was presented to the Commander and was mounted on the colors display pole.
Commander Millison, a member of the Departments Ad-Hoc Centennial Committee and members of Post 626 sponsor a ceremony and fundraising drive at the National WWI Museum and Memorial to mark the anniversary of the Legion receiving its Congressional Charter. Post 626 hosted a dinner for National Commander Bill Oxford on his final stop in the Depatment of Missouri. Legion dignataries as well as from the Elks, VFW and the Mayor of Gladstone were in attendence.
Under the leadership of Vice Cdr. Bowen, the Post hosted its first annual "Bridging the Generation Gap walk.
Several Post 626 members and family participated in 100 Miles for Hope to raise money for the Veterans and Childrens Foundation. The foundation serves two primary functions. It provides critical grants for military and veteran parents in unexpected financial crises, and support for service officers in their tireless efforts to obtain care, benefits and opportunities for disabled veterans and families. The American Legion's 3,000 accredited service officers provide free assistance for any veteran in need.
Mamus Ogolor from Staley High School was representing the Third District and Gladstone’s Post 626 at the Department contest and came in second at the eighty-seventh annual State contest at Ashland Missouri and secured a $2,500 scholarship.
