Olympic gold for Legion champ
2002 winner of American Legion Junior Shooting Sports championship breaks Olympic record in London.
Jamie Beyerle (Corkish), who shot her way to the 2002 American Legion Junior 3-Position Air Rifle National Championship, takes the Olympic gold medal in the women’s 50-meter rifle three-position shooting competition at the London Games. She barely missed a medal four years earlier, finishing fourth in Beijing. In London, however, she breaks an Olympic record for accuracy with 691.9 points, including a 99.9 in the final round.
The University of Alaska-Fairbanks graduate competed in American Legion Junior Shooting Sports in her native hometown of Lebanon, Pa. In 2013, having retired from competitive shooting after a back injury and now coaching, she is selected to serve on The American Legion’s 100th Anniversary Honorary Committee.
