James Heron was commander of the post during 1950. Known as “Casey”, he was very active in many post’s activities which included Finance (Finance Officer), Baseball and Golf committees. Also he retired from U.S. Postal Office which he worked for many years.
Served as Post Commander in 1953. As an attorney, he helped start a Scholarship fund that helped students for many years.
John Heron served the Post for the year 1955. He worked for at the Hanson Air Force Base in Massachusetts for many years. He was a member of the Baseball committee and helped out the Post.
Commander Clough was a member of Sweeney Post for 60 years. In 1958 he served as Post Commander and was a member of the Gold Committee.
George Young was commander in 1959. Also, he was the finance officer and helped support several activities including running successful bingo games for the Post. In addition, he served as Battalion Chief for the city of Manchester Fire Department.
He led as Post Commander during 1963. He was very active in the baseball activities. Bob with other former commanders helped the Post baseball teams to Regional and World Series Baseball winnings (1968).

Former Commander Madden (1996) is known in helping start the “Drum and Bugle Corp” in the late 40s and 50s. The Corp played in Local and National competitions. Also, he was the District Commander. Sharkey is well known throught out the city of Manchester.
George Smith was the commander for the Post during 2002. He served the Post as the Athletic director for thirty years. His leadership helped shape the Baseball activities as of today (2018). Also he served as Alderman for the city of Manchester.
David Nixon served as Post Commander during 2004. He was an attorney for the Post and helped the Post in legal matters for twenty years.
Bill Whitmore served twice as commander for Sweeney Post (2010 and 2014). Also, he was involved in recruitment for young veterans and encourage the older veterans to do recruitment for Sweeney Post. Unfortunately, he was the first command to pass away while serving in office as Commander.
