The Washington County War Memorial stands on the grounds of the former Washington County Courthouse.  It is located at the corner of 5th Avenue and Poplar Street in West Bend, Wisconsin.  The life-size statue portrays a doughboy as he reaches the top of a hill with a grenade in one hand and bayonet in the other.  The memorial was erected in honor of soldiers, sailors, marines and nurses of Washington County who served in the Civil War, Spanish-American War and World War I.  The dedication was held on November 16, 1927, was attended by 10,000 people, including thoses from as far away as New York.  Over 1,200 ex-service men marched in the parade with more than 2,000 children.  American Legion Ray Dickop Post 36 of West Bend, Wisconsin arranged the dedication ceremony and parade for this event.
