President Donald Trump signs the Harry W. Colmery Veterans Educational Assistance Act of 2017 – also known as the “Forever GI Bill” because it removes the 15-year time limits of the previous benefit for veterans who wish to use it for college. The new version also significantly increases funding for National Guard and Reserve veterans, spouses, dependents and survivors.

“This lifetime benefit will allow veterans and their families to earn degrees and begin rewarding careers that can lead our economy,” National Commander Charles Schmidt says after the act is signed. “We believe that this legislation, named after a past national commander of The American Legion, will transform America as the original did following World War II.”
