American Legion Post 597 was chartered March 15, 1947.  We are  located in Historic Downtown Carrollton, Texas. We have a membership upwards of three hundred Legionnaires. In addition, American Legion Post 597 partners with affiliated organizations including American Legion Auxiliary, Sons of the American Legion, and the American Legion Riders. The Post also hosts and partners with Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #8923 Kelsie C. Edington Memorial Post. The Post is one of the largest and fastest growing American Legion Posts in North Texas and serves a large community in Dallas and Denton counties.
Through its members, Post 597 pledges itself “to uphold, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States and principles of true Americanism, for the common welfare of the living and the solemn commemoration of those who dies that Liberty might not perish from the Earth.” The American Legion is the nation’s largest wartime veterans service organization, committed to mentoring youth and sponsorship of wholesome programs in our communities, advocating patriotism and honor, promoting strong national security, and continued devotion to our fellow service-members and veterans.
