Post Namesake
Parker County: In the year 1855 Jefferson Weatherford of Dallas, Texas was the representative in the State Senate from this district and Isaac Parker of Tarrant County in the Legislature. A new county was organized lying immediately West of Tarrant and MR. Weatherford introduced a resolution naming the County Parker in honor of his friend. Then Mr. Parker made a motion that the County Seat be named Weatherford in honor of Senator Weatherford. Thus the names of Parker County and Weatherford were Established.

In 1949, James C. Wright, Jr., served as Commander of Post 163. Recognized as Weatherford's youngest Mayor in the 1950s, he became a Congressman and later rose to worldwide fame as the U.S. Speaker of the House of Representatives, the third most powerful man in the nation.
