On May 11, 1953, an F4 tornado tore through downtown Waco, killing 13 and injuring 153. The 20-mile path resulted in the destruction or damage of 519 homes, 19 businesses and 150 cars.  The post was one of those businesses that saw damage.  During the cleanup caused by the tornado, the City of Waco requested the post to vacate their location.  The post and the VFW combined their resources to purchase a building at 4th and Tennessee in Waco.
