Over the past three years, Post 228 has worked to establish counseling service and enhanced communication with the Tennessee Department of Veterans' Affairs and the Veterans Administration. The Post voted to send its appointed Service Officer to the Service Officers' Training Seminar in Nashville, Tennessee during October 2013. The Post 228 is working to upgrade Benton County's representation of veterans, and service capabilities by meeting with area Veterans at the Post 228 Building in Big Sandy, and visiting home-bound and medical center bound centers near Big Sandy. Similarly, the Post's Service Officer and Chaplain will represent Post 228 and the American Legion by visiting bereaved families of Veterans who have passed on. Requests and arrangements can be made by leaving a written request in the Service Officer's Mail Box at the post, or by contacting a representative of the Post Service Unit by calling (731) 593-5737. These activities will remain a feature of Post 228's service as personnel is available.\
