Fred E. Lomax was the first veteran killed in action in Lewis County, therefore the naming of the Post.  The Post was chartered on January 13, 1922.  The first commander was C.L. Voorhies, first Adjutant was Hubert Peery, at the time of chartered there were thirty-three members.

The first American Legion Hall was the Memorial Building where the Lewis County Library stands today.  The building was built in 1948 by the American Legion Post 127 and V.F.W. Post 1814 and opened in 1950.

The Post had a burial squad in 1947.

The Post sponsored basketball team from 1947 to 1951.  Sponsored baseball teams for 1950 to 1953.  Also, through the years Post 127 sponsored Little League baseball teams and still donates monies to the High School baseball and other sports through the year.

Post 127 has had several 7th District Commanders, Middle Tennessee Vice Commanders, State Membership Chairmen and one State Commander.

Post 127 has at one time had a three generation of veterans as members of said Post.

For many years the Post had road blocks to collect monies to help needy families at Christmas and gifts to Veterans and their spouses in local nursing home.

Post 127 has for many, many years held an Annual Golf Tournament to raise monies to help the youth of Lewis County.

Post 127 also for many years had A Fire Works Station to raise monies to help with the youth and veterans of Lewis County.

Post 127 has sponsored Memorial Day and Veterans Day's Parades and programs at the High School and Elementary School.

Post 127 purchases flags that are put on Veterans graves in the Lewis County area for Memorial Day.  They also put purchase flags to put uptown during Memorial Day and Veterans Day.

Post 127 purchases Flag cases for deceased Veterans family for the folded flag.

They sponsor two boys each year to go to Boys State, and one has gone onto Boys Nation.

Post 127 has also chartered Boy Scout and Cub Scout.

Post 127 has furnished medical equipment to those who could not afford to buy said equipment.  Most equipment was donated to the Post so they could give this equipment to those in need.

Post 127 had the first American Legion Riders Chapter in the state of Tennessee.

Post 127 works the local Lewis County government to help the veterans of Lewis County.
