Shinglehouse Post 530 - Simply named after the small town of Shinglehouse.

What Makes this Post Unique

The Shinglehouse American Legion Post has been an enduring fixture in this neighborhood since its original 1922 charter. Railroads, cheese producers, logging, glass factories and agriculture have come and gone, but “The Legion” presence remains, and in its current home on a ¾ acre triangle of property, donated in 1949. It's just a country mile outside our vibrant mini-metropolis — Shinglehouse, PA, USA. Numerous layers of the surrounding genealogy have interacted with the Legion, some helping to manage the fun and its philanthropic efforts. Indeed there are many pictures hanging on the Legion’s walls of past wars’ fallen sons, all Shinglehousians. There’s even a Civil War General buried nearby. The very “First” Miss America was from this neighborhood. The Shinglehouse metropolis (Pop. 1127) has everything it needs – two gas station mini-marts, a small, but complete country size super market, a Dollar General, five churches, an undertaker, Post Office and a bar.  More heavy duty needs are found within 25 miles in any direction. What more do you need?

Potter County, has long been a hunting and fishing rendezvous, an outdoors haven and indeed, it’s not too far away from Mom and the grandkids and right in the middle of “Cell phones don’t work here”.

“The “Hills Are Alive” with hunting camps and ‘wannabe’ big game hunters — citified rednecks who flock annually to any spot on earth just to play at hunting and fishing.
