On November 9, 1944, twenty six civic-minded veterans of Wickliffe met to form an American Legion Post. With the thought of God and Country and the opportunity of better community service by the veterans of Wickliffe, the agenda was set up with Joseph Varnum as temporary chairman and William Russel as temporary secretary.

The second meeting was held on November 16th and – by unanimous vote – the name picked for the newly formed Post was Brewer-Tarasco.

BREWER: In honor of the first who sacrificed his life in World War I...
&
TARASCO: As the first to sacrifice his life in World War II...

Both of these outstanding young been were the first who gave the ultimate sacrifice, from our great city of Wickliffe, without thought or question so that we may carry on in the greater good.
