Gulf War begins with Desert shield

Logistics challenge number 1; teach Marines from 29 Palms how to move massive amounts of equipment by air. This was this historians objective as Operation Desert Shield began.  Logistics challenge 2; build a base. When combat troops landed in Saudi Arabia they simply had no base to report to. Many troops vied for shade and stayed somewhat close to the runway and awaited orders.  This huge logistical challenge was never mentioned anywhere short of CNN.  Building a base began with a massive need for tents and other basic forms of shelter.  Throughout the annals of military history, soldiers sailors and airmen had some sort of base to report to.  In his book MOVING MOUNTAINS General William Pagonis describes the challenges we faced as logistics officers and NCO's.
