First Organizational Meeting

On April 12th at the Leonardsville Central School at 8 PM, a meeting of veterans was called to order by John Wilson as acting chairman. A motion was made by Roger Chase that the veterans present should form an American Legion Post in Leonardsville; motion seconded and carried. First Participation in Memorial Day Parades

May 30, 1946
At 10:15 AM, a parade started from Leonardsville Central School and marched to the cemetery for a brief service. At 11:15 AM, a parade started from the Odd Fellows Hall, stopped at Beaver Creek for a service in honor of sailors and marines, then went on to the cemetery for a brief service. On returning, the line of march halted at the honor roll on Main Street to honor the veterans of WWII.

Post Name Approved

The Committee for naming the Post reported that the Johnson family and the Rogers family had approved the use of the names for this Post. Motion was made, seconded and carried unanimously that American Legion Post 1492 use the name Johnson-Rogers on the application for a permanent charter.

Post Acquires Its First Home

Aug 1, 1948
At the July 29, 1948 meeting, the Post Building Committee reported that the deal on the new building would be closed in a few days. The Post would have to put in heating and plumbing. A clause in the deed stipulated that if the Post moved out of town, the building would be sold back to the Talbot estate.
