On July 4, 1920 Post 82 held its first Mardi Gras in which Broad Street, between the Railroad and Second Street, was roped off for the day. Booths were erected, a patriotic parade was held and speeches were given in the afternoon, and a band concert and dancing in the street furnished the evening entertainment. It was a regular old fashioned 4th of July celebration, and the post netted a profit of $347.34. Mardi Gras became an annual event host by Post 82 for several decades thereafter.
