Henry DelTosto, Adjutant for Nutley American Legion Post 70, and President of the Nutley Veterans' Council, arranged and conducted a Veterans' Day Service for the town at Vincent United Methodist Church on November 11.  During the service Luther Engler was recognized as Nutley's Veteran of the Year.

Luther was born March 6, 1942 in in Wilkes-Barre, Pa.  He entered the Marine Corps. 3 days after graduating high school where he served as an aviation electronics specialist.  He was deployment as part of the Cuban Missile Crisis where his vehicle went over a cliff and he broke his back.  He spent 6 months in the hospital at Quonset Point RI so with only 3 months left on his enlistment, he was denied permission to accompany his squadron when they were sent to Viet Nam.  He was honorably discharged in June 1964.

 

After his military service he attended the Newark Police Academy where he  graduated #1 in his class.  During his career he worked in the 1st Precinct walking a beat and riding in radio cars and working plain clothes.  During his career he was promoted several times before retiring as a Captain.  

 

Luther has a Associates Degree in Criminal Justice, a Baccalaureate and a Masters Degree in Criminal Justice and Psychology as well as a 2nd Masters in Business (MBA) al from Rutgers University.

 

Luther is president of Engler Financial Services and branch manager of Cadaret, Grant & Co. where he manages the office and assists investors with setting their financial goals. 

 

Outside of work, Luther enjoys rooting for Notre Dame and Villanova sports teams Country Western dancing, reading, travel and family.  He currently serves as the Finance Officer for Nutley American Legion Post 70 and is extremely active in the Nutley Chamber of Commerce.
