Nutley’s 95th annual Memorial Day Parade presided over by Grand Marshal Edward Tremmel Jr., a Vietnam veteran. Grand Marshal Tremmel served in Vietnam and later with the 82nd Airborne Division. Honorably discharged in 1968, he worked for the American Can Company before joining the U.S. Postal services, His two sons and two daughters are Nutley High School graduates. Tremmel is a long time member of American Legion Post 70 in Nutley and, as its Service Officer, organizes monthly visits to veterans at the East Orange Veterans' Hospital.
In keeping with tradition, Nutley's Memorial Day celebration began at 7:30 AM with visits to all of the Town’s veterans’ monuments and cemeteries where services including the reading of the names of the departed, ceremonial volleys and the playing of Taps occurred. Included in the visitations was a stop at the Post's former building where the new owner, Femino-Ducey-Queler group, has offered to maintain the existing monument out of respect for the sacrifices of the Nation's veterans.
