Nutley Department of Public Affairs Commissioner Steven Rogers in partnership with American Legion Post 70 and the Nutley Veterans Council established a "Veterans Club" that will meet four times a year at the Nutley Museum. The first meeting is scheduled Thursday, Dec. 20, from 9-11 a.m.

The planning for this club began in September and is being established to provide a place for Nutley veterans to socialize, interact, learn about the fine veterans organizations we have in town, and more importantly, interact with high school students.

"We have a very active VFW, AMVETS, American Legion, and DAV that many young military veterans are not aware of," Rogers said today. "This club will be an opportunity for them to learn about these organizations.

"More important, veterans who meet at the club will have an opportunity to share their military experiences with high school students," Rogers said.

"The Superintendent of Schools has been kind enough to assist us in having high schools students visit the veterans at the club on Dec. 20th. These students will be in the presence of living history. There is no history book on earth that can provide our students the education these heroes can provide via their first person experiences in time of peace and war," says Commissioner Rogers.

Any Nutley veterans can come on the Dec. 20 meeting; there is no cost and refreshments will be served.
