Nutley Post 70, has proudly sponsored an annual baseball program for youngsters age 15 to 19. New Jersey holds an honored place in this tradition producing several National Champions and, with over 100,000 players on over 350 teams, ranking second only to Pennsylvania with respect to the size of its program. Our local teams have also fared well and the Junior team won the State Legion Baseball Championship in 1989.
As Legionnaires, we are committed to America's youth, which is why we have sponsored Legion Baseball since 1925 making it the oldest and largest, nationwide teenage baseball program in America. The goals of American Legion Baseball are the development of team discipline, individual character and leadership development qualities in young people. Each year we sponsor both a Junior and Senior team. The expenses for each team include insurance, registration, uniforms, equipment, and umpire fees. We spend well over $4,000 each year for this program and feel that it is worth every penny.
