The story starts way back to June 1932 Post 65 buys tax sale property of Dr Hunt. Location Holly St. The end of June same year the State of New Jersey takes a piece of Land by eminent domain to build part of Route 1.The post receives abandoned wooden school house from School Board Administrator Dr Carl Roos.The Post has many luminaires and National and Local Achievements. The designer of Raritan Arsenal was a member of the Post. He was temporarily denied participation in Europe. This for the reason of developing a New arsenal after German Saboteurs blew up the Jersey City Caven Point Arsenal known as the Black Tom Explosion. Then the leaders also built a Baseball Field for Legion Baseball which has been a part of Campbell School since the 1950's.The Post was very active in getting the Bonus Law past over President Franklin Roosevelt's Veto. The under Secretary of the Navy during World War 11 was a member of Post 65.During 1943 1944 Dr Carl Roos was Chef Degaru of New Jersey 40/8.Dr Roos helped push through Congress the Original GI Bill.
Fast forward to 2002 the American Legion Post 65 and Metuchen were the First to Honor survivors of the World Trade Center. That Memorial Day the head of Trade Center Security, Fireman.Lt Larocca NY Policeman and Port Authority Policeman were Grand Marshalls at Metuchen's 2002 Memorial Day Parade. All of which survived being buried trying to rescue the innocent Victims of the Terrorist attack. All four men are True Heroes of that Deadly Day.
Now we are moving to a Brand New Facility. The town is building a Parking Deck and 279 apartments. The builder and Town wanted Post 65's Property for the completion of their Development. Post 65 has been in Negotiations since 2010.The Final outcome was for the town to provide property and the Developer to build a New Post Home. This has now been accomplished. October 5th 2015 we received the Certificate of Occupancy for Post 65's new Post Home.
