If you come into our post home you'll notice a large autographed white flag on the back wall. If you've ever wondered about it, here's the rest of the story: At the January 8 regular meeting of American Legion Post 54, nine Marines from the 6th Motor Transport Batallion presented an autographed flag to the post. One of our members, Sgt. Antonio Martinez of the 6th Motor Transport Batallion, had recently returned from the batallion's deployment to Iraq and wanted to donate the flag to Post 54. Lieutenant Colonel Patrick Hermesmann stated that his primary concern in Iraq was keeping his Marines alive, but followed closely behind was keeping the morale up. Colonel Hermesmann said that "...the biggest morale boost we got was mail call. I know the American public; the American legion and this Post in particular participated in that mail call, as far as sending things over to reach our Battalion. To that extent, it made a great contribution towards the morale, and that morale made a great contribution towards Mission Accomplishment. So, we thank you."
