On December 25th 1919 Mrs. Vanderveer traveled from Bayville to the post meeting and presented a framed portrait of her son George P. Vanderveer. The photograph was probably taken in boot camp and shows George with his rifle, perhaps a Springfield or Enfield at port arms. The picture is also mounted in a place of honor in our foyer and will be ninety seven years old in 2016. At the next meeting the membership approved a motion to pay the $2.50 jitney fare for Mrs. Vanderveer's round trip to Toms River.
