Because of the amount of traffic that comes with a growing city, the City of Papillion decided they needed to expand on Lincoln Street in the downtown area and heading West. The city started the Lincoln Street project on March 21, 2017.
This project was to consist of expanding the street to three lanes of traffic one each direction with a turn lane down the middle. As you had further west on Lincoln Street they will create two roundabouts to help with the flow of traffic and the safety considerations. The city is also building a new recreational area further west from the American Legion which dictated and figured into the expansion of Lincoln Street. It will consist of a 10 foot wide right path on the north side of Lincoln Street and a 5 foot wide walking path on the south side of Lincoln Street.
Because of this expansion the American Legion has lost their three handicap parking spaces and the marquee sign on the front lawn. The commander in the Lincoln Street committee worked hard and vigorously with the city to ensure that we received three new handicap spots somewhere towards the front of the building the spot that was compromised on was on the east side towards the front of the building. The American Legion is still trying to figure out how to substitute or replace the marquee sign.
