• November 6, 2013
o Regular Meeting- Commander Barb Ebersole called Post 287 to order with 15 members present. Chaplain Stan Stubblefield gave the opening prayer.
o Membership at 210
o American Legion Riders Director Williams reported the two charity drives are ongoing: the Leavenworth Christmas Gift Shop and the Cameron Veterans Home Clothing/Blanket Drive. The next Legion Breakfast will be November 9th.
o Sons of the American Legion will have a Hot Roast Beef Sandwich dinner on November 20th.
o Veterans Day Activities will include:
 Auxiliary Veteran’s Dinner will be November 11th from 5:30 – 7:00 p.m. Program to include Flag Folding Demonstration (Madison Rising version).
 Andrew County Senior Center- Veterans Luncheon will be Thursday, November 7 at 11 a.m. Will have: flag folding ceremony- traditional version, POW-MIA ceremony & Taps
 LaVerna Village Nursing Home visitation will be at 2 p.m.
 School Assembly Programs: Savannah Middle School- Flag folding ceremony– post the colors, pledge of allegiance, flag folding (modern version), and proper flag folding demonstration. The Amazonia Elementary School Assembly will be on Nov 8th at 1:15 p.m.
o Post 287 received a Zone II Americanism Award Plaque for 7th place at the Department Fall Conference.
o Post 287 has been invited to the November 12th Troop 60 Scout meeting to present a program on Flag Etiquette.
o Troop 60 has generated $20,000 in popcorn sales. The proceeds will go directly back to the scouts to fund their camps, scholarship program, and other events.

• November 20, 2013
o Commander Barb Ebersole called Post 287 to order. A quorum was established with 20 members present. Chaplain Stan Stubblefield gave the opening prayer.
o Membership at 214
o American Legion Riders Leavenworth Christmas Gift Shop charity drive update. Director Tim Williams recognized both the excellent efforts of the Auxiliary and the generous annual donation from Bonnie and Edner Rudolph towards the program.
o The next Legion Breakfast will be December 14th.
o Sons of the American Legion Hot Roast Beef Sandwich dinner served 34 guests.
o Post 287 Website- after discussion a motion was made, seconded and approved to have a Post Website. SAL Mike Walter will set the site up. Costs will be approximately $120/annually. SAL Walter will donate his time and expertise to designing and constructing the site. The website will encompass all of the Legion Family components including the Auxiliary, Sons of the American Legion, and Legion Riders.
o Andrew County Museum has asked the Post for a Color Guard to Post the Colors and lead the group with the Pledge of Allegiance during their annual Christmas program on December 7th. Legionnaire Jerry Fischer volunteered to help.
o Ducks n Bucks Charity Dinner- Post 287 will provide the opening Color Guard. The service flags will be used as a backdrop as well.
o Andrew County Veteran’s Display Case at the Courthouse is in development. Legionnaire Billy Kretzer has received 105 names collected by Legionnaire Bill Phillips. The Post will need to discuss how much monetary commitment to make for the project. Names collection will remain ongoing.
o Legionnaire Rudolph commented how Post 287 had 3 World War II era members recently come back from the WWII Memorial Honor Flights. Earl Hammer, one of the honorees, was in attendance at tonight’s meeting. The other 2 Legionnaires were Ed Weber and Kenneth Diggs.
o Collision Repair was donating a good used vehicle for a needy veteran family. The company asked if our Post could sponsor the $50 cost towards registering and licensing the vehicle.
o Legionnaire Stackhouse commented on how appreciative Troop 60 was to have the Flag Etiquette program by Jerry Fischer and Brian Stackhouse, along with the Flag Folding by Timmy Williams and Terry Beasley

• December 4, 2013
o Commander Barb Ebersole called Post 287 to order with 11 members present. Chaplain Stan Stubblefield gave the opening prayer.
o Sons of the American Legion Squadron 287 is “Over-the-Top” at 36 after receiving 4 more renewals tonight!
o Leavenworth Christmas Gift Shop- approximately $1,800 were delivered by Debbie, Tim, Barb, Becky, Dave, Mike Schweder, and Jerry Fischer. The visited proved to be very special and emotional. Lots of hugs, the veterans were very appreciative for all the help in picking out gifts to be mailed to their family members. Post 464 American Legion Family members were also there in force.

• December 18, 2013
o Commander Barb Ebersole called Post 287 to order with 13 members present. Chaplain Stan Stubblefield gave the opening prayer.

o American Legion Riders report by Directory Williams:

 They have lots of donations for the Cameron Veteran’s Home
o Sons of the American Legion (SAL) - Commander Brock reported:
 The Squadron will Adopt-A-Family for Christmas. The squadron will donate $300, Legion Rider P.J. Snyder added another $60, and one other donation for $20 was received.
 Ham-n-Bean Dinner will be hosted by Squadron 287 on Friday, January 17th.
o SAL Mike Walter updated the membership on the Post 287 website being developed:
 Still gathering data and pictures to add to the initial site
 The site will have sections for each group. The groups will be arranged in relation to when they came into existence with this Post: American Legion, Legion Auxiliary, Legion Riders and Sons of the American Legion
 Goals for the website include:
• Put together as much information about the Post as possible.
• Get this information out to the general public to generate both greater interest and even memberships.
• Better inform the public and our membership on all of our functions, volunteer services, and contributions to the community.
• Attract the younger generation
 Each Legion Family Group will also be able to post a calendar of their scheduled events and meetings.
 Links will also be available for each group’s newsletter.
o Post 287 provided a Color Guard for the 35th Infantry Division Deployment Ceremony. Color Guard members included: Billy Kretzer, Dan Miller, Norman Brosi, and Terry Beasley. Fourteen Missouri Army Guard members were being deployed for 12 months to Kosovo. Governor Jay Nixon, Major General Stephen Danner, and other military, political and civic leaders were in attendance. The 35th Infantry Division donated $50 to our Post with their “thanks” for helping them with this event.
