
May 16, 2012 (Cmdr Barb Ebersole and Adj. Terry Beasley) --- Legion Riders collected 231 stuffed bears for Camp Quality. They will also have gifts of toy airplanes and do-rags. The Legion Riders are supplying a large quantity of food for the event. --- Memorial Day Planning: Don Bowland’s daughter Deanna requested the empty boots symbol for Memorial Day along with a white cross. --- A refrigerator and freezer have been purchased at a Home Depot discounted price of $802.58. The current refrigerator appliance continued to have total failure issues. The replacement costs were far better than quoted repair costs. --- Edner Rudolph has marked all of the cemetery and court house flag pole hole locations and bored them out. ***
June 6, 2012 (Cmdr Barb Ebersole and Adj. Terry Beasley) --- American Legion Riders (ALR): Teddy Bear Run to Camp Quality- The ride will be June 10th. They have collected 367 stuffed bears, along with other toys and gifts. A U-Haul was donated used to deliver all the gift and food donations. The Legion Riders will be there to provide motorcycle escorts and give children rides. --- Sons of the American Legion- the SAL is a big contributor of hams and other support to the Camp Quality event. --- Memorial Day: Commander Ebersole thanked everyone for all the work before, during and after the ceremony. Commander Ebersole was also very appreciative of the Savannah High School Band, Troop 60 Boys and Girls Scouts, and our speaker Legionnaire Aspey. Legionnaires shared the many compliments received for this years’ event. The Savannah Reporter provided a great article as well. --- Debbie Williams was honored with the 4th District Poppy Decoration Award --- Legionnaires Stubblefield and Kretzer were recognized for providing the “Battle Cross” during the Memorial Day event. --- Legionnaires Kretzer and Rosenauer added to this year’s ceremony by doing the “Folds of the American Flag” ceremony. --- Auxier Construction completed the parking lot stripping. They added handicap spaces and maximized regular parking slots. --- Flay Day – June 14th- for those available to set flags out around the Court House. --- Post 287 was requested to participate in the Andrew County Fair Parade on the 16th of June. They wanted us to provide a Color Guard and the Jeep. --- 4th District Oratorical Contest- the Savannah Middle School has been reserved for the event scheduled on the 2nd Sunday in February. ***
June 20, 2012 (Cmdr Barb Ebersole and Adj. Terry Beasley) --- American Legion Riders (ALR): Welcomed 2 new members tonight. Rider membership is at 28. The Riders are doing nothing but growing and this is good for the community and the Legion. Rides/Events in the planning stages: Camp Quality (June 10th)- the Legion Riders did an exceptional job. The riders handled things in a professional manner. $2,800 was raised and donated, plus all the other food commodities & toys. “The trailer was full.” Cameron V.A. Nursing Home – Secret Santa Ride- July 21st. The donations items collected from the beginning of the year to date will be delivered. --- At least 30 flags are needed, plus the poles to replace current flags that are missing or worn for our displays on Main Street, Court House, and the Cemetery. A motion was made by Wilton Adkins and seconded by Stan Stubblefield. The Post will replace the flags and poles over a gradual period of time. The costs are estimated to be over $600.00. ***
July 18, 2012 (Cmdr Barb Ebersole and Adj. Terry Beasley) --- American Legion Riders (ALR): Membership: Welcomed 7 new members recently. Rider membership is at 33. --- Legion Breakfast: Last breakfast had an attendance of 116. Raised approximately $700.00. Average Breakfast attendance = 122. --- Legacy Scholarship: The Legions Riders have raised $1,500.00 this year! The check will be hand-delivered to the National Convention by Legionnaires Stan Stubblefield and Terry Beasley. --- Post 287 has passed the annual Health Inspection. The certification is good for one year. --- Spaghetti Dinner, 1 August at 6 p.m. Guest Speakers will be from Hospice and the Veteran’s Administration. --- Legionnaire Wilton Adkins pointed out with passing of Marion Louise Van Hoozer, she was one of the early, but not quite first, female members of Post 287. ***
August 1, 2012 (Cmdr Barb Ebersole and Adj. Terry Beasley) --- Post 287 received the 2012 Military Funeral Honors Program Certificate of Merit. The certificate cites doing funeral honors for 33 deceased veterans during the last 12 months. --- Sons of the American Legion (SAL)- 5 new members. September 15th the SAL will be able to run a fund raising concession stand at an auction by John Hutchinson. Working with Legion Riders on a ride in 2013 for the Fisher House charity organization. --- Commander Ebersole will attend the Missouri Women Veterans Conference in Warrensburg on September 14th. ***
August 15, 2012 (Cmdr Barb Ebersole and Adj. Terry Beasley) --- American Legion Riders (ALR): ALR had a lengthy meeting tonight with many discussions: ALR will participate in the Craig Parade on 22 September. Legacy Scholarship: $1,500 was giving to Stan Stubblefield to be hand delivered to the National Convention in Indianapolis. Cameron V.A. Nursing Home ride was postponed another week, due to help being needed for a veteran’s funeral this coming Saturday. School Supplies and Leavenworth V.A. Hospital Gift Shop donation drives remain ongoing. Please donate. --- Fish Fry Membership Dinner and Induction of Officers will be September 5th. --- Flags displayed around the courthouse on: Labor Day (3 Sept), and Patriot Day (11 Sep). Legionnaire Kretzer and Stubblefield volunteered to put the flags out those days. Other volunteers are encouraged to help them. Legionnaire Rudolph and Bonnie were recognized for remembering to get the flags out during the primary election day. --- Chaplain Fischer will be sending out “Get Well,” “Sympathy,” and “Thank You” cards throughout the year. He requested and order be placed for “sympathy” cards. The order will be obtained. ***
