January 4, 2012 (Cmdr Barb Ebersole and Adj. Terry Beasley) --- American Legion Riders (ALR) - report by Tim Williams: The February 11th breakfast will incorporate food drive donations. --- Veteran Assistance: Commander Ebersole, Debbie Williams, Tim Williams, and Britt Small met with a military veteran needing assistance. Current plan was for our Post to help him acquire shoes. Legionnaire Small would work on V.A. programs and getting some tools for his roofing job. ***

January 18, 2012 (Cmdr Barb Ebersole and Adj. Terry Beasley) --- American Legion Riders (ALR) - report provided by Tim Williams: The January 14th breakfast served 105 people. Proceeds will go towards ALR’s contributions for the Legacy Foundation and Boys State. --- Veteran Assistance- a total of $65.00 was used to purchase work clothing items for a needy veteran. Commander Ebersole has a Veteran’s Administration information packet if further assistance is needed for this individual. --- Finance Officer Williams requested to make the annual Auxiliary donation as soon as possible. A motion was made and seconded. $1,000 will be donated. --- Commander Ebersole thanked the individual(s) who put the flags out at the courthouse square for the Martin Luther King observance. --- The Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) will host an event at the Post with a guest speaker from the Command and General Staff School, Fort Leavenworth United States Army Garrison. --- The James Lyle family placed a Saint Joseph News-Press “Your Bouquets” thank you to the Post for the military funeral honors, and to all those who made a memorial donation that went to Dick Munkres Post 287. The donations totaled $665.00. --- There will be a Boy Scout Charter meeting. Post 287 has a seat and one vote. The meeting will be January 30th at 6 p.m. at Heartland Regional Medical Center. Legionnaire Stackhouse recently re-signed the 3-part annual charter. ***

February 1, 2012 (Cmdr Barb Ebersole and Adj. Terry Beasley) --- Commander Ebersole stated there were a number of old plaques in the jeep storage area. The plaques will be photographed to make a digital archive copy. The plaques will then be returned to the Legion member or their family if possible. --- Legionnaire Rudolph recommended placing a “thank you” in The Savannah Reporter for all the donations received from Post Legionnaires Memorials. The ad will be placed as he presented, and he will be reimbursed for any expenses. --- Legionnaire Rudolph recognized Commander Ebersole and her retirement from the Missouri Western State University ROTC program. She had a nice ceremony. There were several Legionnaires in attendance. ***

February 15, 2012 (Cmdr Barb Ebersole and Adj. Terry Beasley) --- American Legion Riders (ALR): 4th District Legion Riders Commander Williams thanked all the riders for the successful breakfast event during the last 3 months. They served 114, 105, and 85 over the winter time frame. The riders also put the Valentine’s Dinner together with 68 people attending. A “Teddy Bear Charity” ride is being planned. --- Sons of the American Legion (SAL):- Squadron Commander Mark Brock proudly announced the formal charter for Post 287 SAL has arrived and been put up for display. There are 20 charter members. --- A motion was made to donate $300 for the Cub Scout Flag. The motion was seconded and passed. The money will come from the Jim Lyle Memorial Fund. Legionnaire Lyle’s family will be informed of the donation. Legion members were invited and highly encouraged to attend the Blue and Gold Banquet on February 25th when the Cub Scout flag will be presented to Troop 60. ***

March 7, 2012 (Cmdr Barb Ebersole and Adj. Terry Beasley) --- American Legion Riders (ALR): The Riders are ready to help with continuing the monthly Saturday Breakfast, they will also help cook a meal for the guests attending the next 4th District meeting. ALR will sponsor 1 candidate to the 2012 Missouri Boys State program. --- Sons of the American Legion (SAL)- SAL will have a Ham “n” all the Fixens dinner for Armed Forces Day on May 19th. --- Boys State: The Post has received 2 applications from North Andrew High School, and 6 applications from Savannah Senior High School. Sponsors include: SAL (2), ALR (1), Savannah Lion’s Club (1), 4 family donations (1), and Post 287 (2). Total -= 7. A selection board was convened prior to the meeting. The applications were ranked in order for sponsorship. The unsponsored application will be forwarded to Warrensburg, along with the sponsored ones. --- May 5th Apple Blossom Parade and/or Rosecrans Air Show: Both events will be on the same day. The membership after discussion wants to concentrate on being at the Air Show. Declined entering into the parade. Plans will be made to trailer the jeep to the airport the day before. --- Post 287 donated $200 to Cub Scout Pack 60 for their Cub Scout flag. The cost of the flag ended up being $199.00. The flag was presented to the Cub Scouts at their Blue and Gold Banquet. --- Post 287 Auxiliary will host the Legion Birthday Dinner, Monday March 12th. ***

March 21, 1012 (Cmdr Barb Ebersole and Adj. Terry Beasley) --- A motion was made, seconded and approved to provide the annual travel expense money for those attending the National Convention. The Post will continue to provide 50 cents per mile, for the one-way distance from Savannah to this year’s National Convention site. --- 4th District Oratorical Contest: District Chairperson Harper asked Post 287 to help with securing a new contest site. Legionnaire Stubblefield is forming a team to meet with the Middle School personnel as a possible site for next year’s contest. ***

April 4, 2012 (Cmdr Barb Ebersole and Adj. Terry Beasley) --- Air Show- Legionnaire Miller will trailer the jeep over to Rosecrans on Friday, before the Air Show. His trailer will be needed on Saturday for a float at the Apple Blossom Parade. Commander Ebersole has a canopy for an informational booth set-up. Commander Ebersole will also seek info pamphlets from the local V.A. office. The American Legion Riders will also be in attendance for the Air Show. --- A nominating committee was formed for the 2012-2013 officer ballot. The committee includes Legionnaire’s Stubblefield and Kretzer. --- Legionnaire Rudolph recently visited Leroy Spears at the Cameron V.A. Nursing Home. Commander Ebersole commented on how nice the accommodations were there. ***

April 18, 2012 (Cmdr Barb Ebersole and Adj. Terry Beasley) --- ALR Rides/Events in the planning stages: Special Olympics- Northwest Missouri University in Maryville, Missouri on April 21st. The ALR will be a part of the Opening Ceremonies. Everyone is invited to come along. Teddy Bear Run to Camp Quality- still need as many donated teddy bears as possible, along with a collection of money. The ride will be June 10th. --- A motion was made, seconded and approved to donate $100 to Camp Quality. ***
