Terry Beasley) --- Guests Present: Ralph Bliley- Past 4th District Commander; Ron Jones- 4th District Northern Vice Commander; Ralph Vulgamott; and Winford Shields --- Dignity Memorial- reported by Legionnaire Mike Feurt: Meierhoffer’s conducted its first indigent funeral under the Dignity Plan. The Marine Corps League also participated in this class event. Meierhoffer’s plans to use metallic caskets in the future, instead of the wooden ones. --- Installation of Officers- 4th District Commander Stanley Stubblefield inducted the following 2005 Post 287 Officers. Ron Jones offered the prayer. Commander Norman Brosi, 1st Vice Commander Brian Stackhouse, 2nd Vice Commander Phil Vogler, Adjutant Craig Curnutt, Finance Officer John B. Miller, Chaplain Bob Dunn, and Historian Bob Dunn. Sergeant-at-Arms not in attendance at tonight’s meeting (Steve Hampton) --- Post 287 has been invited to the Amazonia Parade by Brenda Howard. The parade will be September 25th. The volunteers included: John Miller, Norm Brosi, Craig Curnutt, and Terry Beasley. --- 4th District Commander Stubblefield congratulated and thanked Edner Rudolph, Craig Curnutt, and Brian Stackhouse for entering the jeep at the Savannah Car Show. They had a 1st Place finish, and a second trophy for “Most Unique.” --- Legionnaire Stubblefield led the group in thanking the cook’s for tonight’s fish fry. Finance Officer reported there were 61 in attendance. --- Commander Brosi recognized and thanked the members who participated in the Barnard Parade. Members included: Brian Stackhouse, John Huey, Stan Stubblefield, Billy Kretzer, Bob Dunn, and Terry Beasley. --- National Convention had a good contingent from Post 187. Members attending the event included: Stan Stubblefield, Norm Brosi, John Miller, Billy Kretzer, and Terry Beasley ***

September 22, 2004 (Cmdr. Norman Brosi and Adj. Craig Curnutt) --- Pancake Breakfast was a success. Over $300.00 was raised. Craig Curnutt thanked Commander Brosi, Herb Clizer, Brian Stackhouse, Terry Beasley, Edner Rudolph, Billy Kretzer, Bob Dunn, and Stan Stubblefield for helping putting on the event. The next tentative breakfast will be November 13th with a flag retirement ceremony planned. --- It was suggested that the Boy Scouts mark the flag holes around the Courthouse like they did at the cemetery. Brian Stackhouse will suggest to the Boy Scout Project Committee. --- After a short discussion by the membership it was decided to nominate Legionnaire John McLarney as Legionnaire of the Year. Edner Rudolph motioned and Terry Beasley seconded. Motion carried. --- Amazonia Fall Festival Parade will be on September 25th. --- Vietnam Moving Memorial Wall will be at Lake Contrary from 16th thru 19th of September 2004. All encouraged to attend. --- Steak Fry to start up October 6th, 2004. Boys State participants will be honored at this time. Dean Gilmore and Jacob Sherlock will be honored for their service in Iraq at an upcoming steak fry of their choosing. --- Legionnaire of the Year Awards were presented to Craig Curnutt and John B. Miller for their contributions to Post 287 in 2004. ***

October 6, 2004 (1st Vice Cmdr. Brian Stackhouse & Adj. Curnutt) --- Flag Display at the Courthouse- Boy Scouts are interested in taking on project. It was decided to increase the number of flags to24 to coincide with Missouri’s Admittance to the Union in 1821. Legionnaires Stan Stubblefield and Billy Kretzer will work with the Boy Scouts on placement and coordinate with County Commissioners. --- Savannah High School Homecoming Parade October 15, 2004. Color Guard and jeep. Start at Messick Park. --- North Andrew Homecoming Parade October 22, 2004. Color Guard and jeep. Parade held in Fillmore. --- Legionnaire Mike Feurt reported that the Saint Joseph Homeless Veterans Coalition is planning to purchase part of the old Herzog property in downtown Saint Joseph, and is going to erect temporary housing and apartments at a later date. ***

October 20, 2004 (1st Vice Cmdr. Brian Stackhouse & Adj. Curnutt) --- Legionnaire Billy Kretzer reported that the Post Office supplies the flags to go to Funeral Homes for Military Honors Burials. Funeral Home will supply Post with flag to fold and present to the family. --- Legionnaire Stan Stubblefield requested that the Post make a donation to the American Legion National Emergency Fund. It was decided to donate $50.00 from the upcoming pancake breakfast donations. --- 1st Vice Commander Stackhouse thanked members who participated in the Savannah High School Homecoming Parade. Members were: Stan Stubblefield, Brian Stackhouse, Craig Curnutt, Edner Rudolph, and Billy Kretzer. ***

November 3, 2004 (Cmdr. Norman Brosi and Adj. Craig Curnutt) --- Monday, November 8, 2004 there will be a Veteran’s Dinner sponsored by the Ladies Auxiliary. --- Wednesday, November 10, 2004 there will be a Veteran’s Appreciation Ceremony at the Savannah Methodist Church. --- Veteran’s Day Activities are as follows: Set up flags at Courthouse and Cemetery; Flag Folding Demonstration Savannah Middle School; and Parade at Saint Joseph. --- Commander Brosi thanked the members who have participated in funeral ceremonies. He also thanked the North Andrew Homecoming Parade participants: Billy Kretzer, Edner Rudolph, Craig Curnutt and Stan Stubblefield. ***

November 17, 2004 (Cmdr. Norman Brosi and Adj. Craig Curnutt) --- Commander Brosi presented John B. Miller with Post 287 Legionnaire of the Year Award plaque for 2004. --- Commander Brosi read resolution proclaiming John McLarney as Post 287 Legionnaire of the Year nomination to be presented at the next 4th District meeting. --- Commander Brosi thanked members who set flags at the Courthouse and Cemetery, participated in the flag folding ceremony at the Savannah Middle School, and attended the Veteran’s Day Parade in Saint Joseph. Members were: Norman Brosi, Craig Curnutt, Edner Rudolph, Billy Kretzer, Herb Clizer, John B. Miller, Stan Stubblefield, Ray Maxwell, Brian Stackhouse, and Terry Beasley. ***

Miller, and Craig Curnutt. --- Post will set service flags December 7, 2004 in remembrance of Pearl Harbor Attack. --- Boys State Post/District Representative Jim Arnold reported that he will start recruiting participants in the 4th District. Goal is to recruit 50 candidates. ***

December 15, 2004 (Cmdr. Norman Brosi and Adj. Craig Curnutt) --- Legionnaire Ray Maxell requested that relatives of POW/MIA’s go to the nearest V.A. Hospital for DNA testing. For further information call 1-800-531-5501. ***
