July 5, 1995 (Commander Fred Garton & Adjutant John Huey)- Finance Officer reported $1,607.36 in checking and $2,454.20 in the Memorial Fund. Efforts will be made to obtain 501 3C Classification in order to be eligible to ask for donations from the Messick Fund. Membership Report- 317, “over-the-top status.” Post 287 requested to provide Color Guard for the Andrew County Fair parade July 15th. Nomination committee presented the list of proposed candidates for Officers: Commander: Mannuel Paxton, 1st Vice Commander Stan Stubblefield, 2nd Vice Commander Wilton Adkins, Finance Officer: Keith Stanton, Adjutant John Huey, Chaplain Joe Jameson, Sergeant-at-Arms Gerald Van Schoiack, Historian Robert Van Hoozer, and Membership Chairman Stan Stubblefield. Executive Committee: Ron Schweizer, John McLarney, Fabian Cobb, and Robert Van Hoozer ***

August 2, 1995 (Vice Commander: Mannuel Paxton & John Huey)- Finance Report- checking balance at $2,039.45 and the Memorial Fund was at $2,571.29. Legionnaire Wilton Adkins reported the deal on the Memorial Park will be closed. Title insurance has been obtained, clearing the way for final completion of the sale. Annual fish fry date was set for September 6th. Donations were set at $3.00. Vice Commander Paxton read the proposed by-law change. The reason for the change was to bring Post by-laws into conformity with the Department. Motion carried. Veteran’s Memorial Fund Chairman Bob Van Hoozer reported that with completion of the deal on sale of Legion property, funds should be available to make up the shortage in the Veteran’s Memorial Fund. ***

August 16, 1995 (Commander Fred Garton & Adjutant John Huey)- Veteran’s Memorial Fund Chairman Bob Van Hoozer reported work will begin soon on the actual installation of the Memorial. Formal dedication was tentatively set for September 17th. Legionnaire Van Hoozer also reported the completion of the agreement between Memorial Park and Mike Ramsel. Deed of trust and warranty deeds were recorded on August 11th. Commander Garton expressed his appreciation for the work done by Dale Miller on the complicated deal. ***

September 6, 1995 (Commander Fred Garton & Adjutant John Huey)- Meeting called to order after the annual fish fry. Commander Garton reported on the events at the National Convention in Indianapolis. Dedication to the Veteran’s Memorial was set for September 17th. Legionnaire Bob Van Hoozer announced National POW-MIA week September 11-15, beginning with the dedication of a new POW-MIA flag at the courthouse. Installation of Officers was conducted by 4th District Southern Vice Commander Keith Benton. Resolutions were passed naming the kitchen room “Harry F. Duncan” room in recognition of all the contributions to Post 287, and a second resolution naming the bar room the “Herman Breit” room in recognition of all his contributions. ***

October 4, 1995 (Cmdr. Mannuel Paxton & Adj. John Huey)- Legionnaire Stanton reported he has been informed that the wife Herman Breit is alive and living in a nursing home in Florida. Newspaper obituary for Reed S. Davison, passing away on 30 September. He was a World War I veteran, and a member of Dick Munkres Post 287. Military rites were rendered. ***
