About This Post

Post Namesake
Nick T. Pegues, Jr. enlisted in the United States Army in 1916 and was a member of Company I, 155th Infantry, First Mississippi Regiment. He was sent to France in September 1918. His company was used fro replacement, and he was enrolled in Company K, Thirty-second Division. He was killed in the Argonne Forest November 10, 1918 by a machine gun bullet. The American Legion Post in Winona, Mississippi was named in honor of Nick T. Pegues, Jr. He was belived to be the first person from Winona, Mississippi to be killed in World War I.

National Commander visits Post 52, Winona, Mississippi

We were happy to welcome our National Commander James "Jim" Koutz to Post 52 for his visit in Mississippi. He presented his pet project of Operation Comfort Warrior and how we could help these wounded veterans. We also had our State Commander John Tardy, the State President of the Auxiliary Sarah Edwards, NEC Robert Gosa and other officials.

Winona's American Legion Post 52 was honored to host our National Commander Daniel M. Dellinger and his Aide Robert Remmer Monday February 17. Accompanying was State Commander Angie Baughman, State Adjutant Johnny Bracy, NEC Robert Gosa, Alt. Post 52 gathered on Mar. 11, 2014 to celbrate the Legion's 95th birthday. Post 52 and the Auxiliary shared a meal and birthday cake. We all enjoyed the fellowship and meal. The picture shows the Post 52 Commander John Laster and Auxiliary President Carolyn Bennett holding the birthday cake.

The Nick T. Pegues,Jr. Post 52 of The American Legion, Department of Mississippi conducted the first ever Oratorical Contest for the Post on November 5, 2014 at the American Legion Bld. in Winona, Mississippi. We had students from three of the area schools.
