The Nick T. Pegues,Jr. Post 52 of The American Legion, Department of Mississippi conducted the first ever Oratorical Contest for the Post on November 5, 2014 at the American Legion Bld. in Winona, Mississippi. We had students from three of the area schools. They gave their prepared oration of 8-10 minutes on anything in the Constitution of the United States and also a 3-5 assigned oration on the 6th Amendment.

Elizabeth Claire Lowery, Senior of Winona High School talked about "What does it mean to be a citizen?" She placed first with a scholarship of $300.00.

Andrew Jordan Welch, Senior of Winona Christian School talked about "Why I believe what I believe about the Constitution." He place second with a scholarship of $200.00.

Wanya Brown, Senior of Montgomery County School talked about the "Eighteenth Amendment." He placed third with a scholarship of $100.00.

We as a post were well pleased with the contest and it was ran by Department of Mississippi Oratorical Chairman Joe Kersh.
