For years the local VFW had handled the county-wide Veterans Day observance. The VFW Post disbanded just as we were 'activating' and we knew this was a date not to let slip by. The Post membership coordinated the whole event which had a great turnout. Along with it, various local merchants (through the Post's efforts) offered meal specials for everyone getting something to eat afterwards. Relatives (nieces, nephews, and cousins from multiple generations) of our namesake were on hand as we announced our charter and formal naming of the post.
