Third annual World War 11 Veteran Recognition dinner was held on Pearl Harbor day, Monday, December 7th at the Ernest F. Oldenburg American Legion Post 216 Hall in Milford, MI. The event was attended by 32 WWII vets along with their guests. Opening ceremony included the Color Guard presenting colors, with the pledge being said.
The following veterans were recognized for their service during WWII: Amy – Ed See, Doyal McOwen, Ralph Strongman, Clifford Forsythe, Merlin Faigley, Al Devoll, Norty Caswell, Al Wilkerson, Lewis Bradbury, Donald Good, Henry Feldman, Richard (Dick) Stewart, Margaret Hanson, Joseph Kilmer, Harry Hodge, Edward Pyzik, Robert Elderkin and James Barnes; Navy – William Hayes, Richard O’Donohue, Chester Johnson, Bill Wooton, William Doggett, Janet Goldsby, Gene Crockett, Zoe Watson, Arthur English, Frank Quinlan and Donald Underhill. Each veteran received a quilt from Carole who is from Miracle Quilts. Miracle Quilts was founded in 2009 in the memory of PFC Joseph Miracle, Ortonville, Michigan. Joseph gave his life in Afghanistan defending our freedom. For his dedication and service, he will never be forgotten. The entertainment was provided by The Chiffon Sisters, whose 1940 vocals brought back some very pleasant memories from the era. While the Chiffon Sisters were performing the crowd was also had the pleasure of some of our veterans getting up and dancing to the music.
The American Legion Family from Post 216 would like to thank the following local businesses for their generosity: Meijer, For Feets Sake, VCS Pets First, Bakers/Comeback Inn, Wright Renovations, Matheson Heating and Cooling, AmVets Post 2006, VFW Post 9914 and FAV (Friends of American Veterans), would also like to thank Cub Scout Pack 53 helping to serve the food and welcoming all our veterans. In the State of Michigan we have 200 WWII Veterans, and Ernest F. Oldenburg Post 216 had 32 WWII Veterans at the Dinner.WOW
