Students Learn history of flag, how to display and fold it
Milford American Legion Post 216 Cmdr. Tony Puente and Sons of the American Legion member Dale Feigley recently performed an American Flag Training Program for the Summer Experience students at Apollo Center in Highland Township.
The program consisted of a display of Fiegley's 1954 Willys Jeep, which the entire class of 12 students fit into, with an explanation of the Jeep and demonstration of its functions.
Students learned the history of the flag, how to display it and how to fold it.
They watched an American Legion movie about the flag, "For Which It Stands," that included myths and rules about it.
Feigley said the program was in the gym at the center with lunch tables that served well for flag folding.
At the end of the program, the students were "graduated" and given American Flag stickers, American Legion patriotic stickers, a booklet about the Declaration of Independence and constitution, and awarded an American Flag pin.
