Carlton E. Stewart was elected Commander, Roy Pittenger was elected Adjutant, Theron R. Arms was elected Finance Office and Solon Gibson was elected Chaplain. Membership total 51.
After an exceptionally poor year the new officers, together with a few progressive members, decided an opportune time was at hand to build up the Post membership; the National Adjusted compensation Act had been passed by the Federal Government and the Post members rendered yeoman service in assisting all ex-servicemen who applied in filling out the proper application forms and obtaining duplicates of missing papers, etc., necessary to complete these applications for compensation.
The Adjusted Compensation (Bonus) was paid in 1936 and thru the Post work in connection with it they were able to compile a reasonably complete list of all ex-servicemen residing in our area who were eligible for membership in the American Legion. A special membership drive was put on and for the Armistice Day Dinner celebration special invitations were extended to all war veterans. This proved to be an overwhelming success ans was attended by over 100 ex-servicemen including Civil and Spanish American war veterans and several former Allied and enemy veterans.
The membership was a boosted to a new all time high of 81 by the end of the year and the Post was awarded the National Citation for Meritorious Service in January, 1936, for surpassing the previous membership before December 31, 1935. The Post was awarded a Console Model Radio as a prize in a Department Membership contest.
Several social events were held. The chief source of funds, however, were the Oakland County Fair beer garden concession and Thanksgiving Feather Party, also Post Picnic to Bob Lo was promoted by Comrade J. Whitehead. Increased expenses were taken care of and interest payments were made on bothe the bank loan and property contracts.
"Poppy Day" was held the weekend preceding Memorial Day and 1000 poppies were disposed of with the aid of the Boy Scout Troop.
The Memorial Day Program was extended to include exercises and services in five other cemeteries - at Walled Lake, Richardson near Commerce, Commerce, Highland, and West Highland - in addition to those previously handled at Oak Grove and St. Mary's in Milford and the Wixom and New Hudson cemeteries.
The Boy scout Troop was continued with increased activity under Comrade Bushey, several of the boys receiving outstanding awards from their council, the Post providing meeting and training facilities.
Several of the new members who joined the Post during the year became very active in the various phases of the Legion program, they were appointed to the different committees and the Post began to take part in various community and youth activities in which they had not been previously active.
The election of officers held in July resulted for the first time in all the various officers being filled and pointed toward more activity in the coming year.
