During 1977 and 1978 there were 2 families recognized for having 3 generations as active members, the McCready's and the Shannon's.
The post had 63 members, with 3 original active members and started looking to establish a new home. Land was purchased along M-61 east of Deep River Road.
Kay (Katherine) Richards of Pinconning was accepted as the post's 1st woman legionnaire. She was a member of the World War II, American Nurse's Corp in Europe. She had applied for membership at the Pinconning VFW post, but was turned down. They were only willing to accept her as an auxliary member.
Prior to 1984 mettings were held at a local business or home of one of the veterans. In 1984, the American Legion purchased their first home at 335 West Cedar Street, Standish.
Post quickly outgrew its home on Cedar St. and in November 1989, ventured into a new building to make home. Post purchased current building, which was a pole barn. It was finished inside and renovated to meet the growing needs of the post. The renovated bar in the lounge dates back to 1941.
Received and erected new donated metal flag pole.
Post received much needed renovations and new look thanks to a grant from Home Depot. There were about 100 volunteers from Home Depot and Consumers Energy who donated their time off and talents to perform the upgrades.
Post received a second grant from Home Depot. This time the renovations included major upgrades to the lounge, and updating both restrooms. This event was picked up by WNEM TV5 news.

American Legion Post 104 became the new home for Veterans of Foreign Wars, Disabled American Veterans, and Vietnam Veterans of America as a way to keep all organizations viable and visible in the Standish community.
