The American Legion Ray Stone Post #238 was granted a Charter to carry on the Exploring program for Character Building, Citizenship Training, and Physical Fitness subject to the provisions of the Constitutions, Bylaws, and rules and regulations of the National Council of the Boy Scouts of America. This charter was originally granted in 1961, when Russell Wall was the Commander and Arthur L.W, "Bud" Larson, Jr., ex Navy, was the Legion representative to Ship 59. By November 1962, there were 19 Boys enrolled on the ship, and the meetings were held in the Fairlawn Methodist Church, Stanley Road, Shrewsbury, every Wednesday from 7-9 PM.
