1. The Raising of the Flag on Iwo Jima occurred February 23, 1945. 70 years later, WWII Veteran Marvin Hanson, holding a 48 star flag, stands next to the Iwo Jima monument he helped create next to the McNiff Post 389 Legion Hall at Anthon. Marvin proudly served his country in the US Navy and was at Iwo Jima unloading supplies at the time the famous flag raising took place.
