American Legion Ray Lines Post No. 64 will sponsor Salida High School juniors Frank DeCew and Finley Petit for American Legion Colorado Boys State.
The week-long course will be June 1-7 at the University of Colorado campus in Colorado Springs.
DeCew is the son of Lynn Van De Water and Dunkley DeCew. Petit is the son of Brian and Jodi Petit.
American Legion Colorado Boys State is a hands-on experience in the operation of the democratic form of government, the organization of political parties and the relationship of one to the other in shaping Colorado government.
Young men learn about city, county and state government through a nonpartisan, objective education approach as well as forming friendships.
Prominent Boys State graduates include Mike Coffman and Ed Perlman, both U.S. congressmen from Colorado; William J. Clinton, 42nd president of the United States; Phil Jackson, NBA coach; Michael Jordan, basketball player; Bruce Springsteen, musician; Neil Armstrong, NASA astronaut; and Tom Brokaw, NBC News anchor, to name a few.
