County voters decided to relocate the Chaffee County courthouse from Buena Vista to Salida. County Commissioners needed a courthouse but had no funds. Post 64 came up with a plan to raise the funds and collected $120,000. Construction of the new courthouse began in 1931 and was completed in 1932. Chaffee County agreed to pay the Post $670 per month. After 25 years the Post conveyed the building to Chaffee County.
