Ray Lines American Legion Post 64 was chartered July 1, 1921. Thomas Nevens was the first Commander in 1920. (apparently) Post 64 was formed and held meetings before it was officially chartered. Post 64 Ladies Auxiliary was first active in 1922. Mary McKinney was the first Commander and held the position until 1927. Post 64 built it's own building of log construction at 235 West 10th Street in Salida in 1935. The original building is still used for Post meetings and rented out for various community activities. Post 64 sponsors Boys State and Babe Ruth baseball. Post 64 also serves in Military funerals, marches in local holiday parades, and participates in many other functions in and around Salida.
