Organizational meetings were held in October 1946 to form an American Legion Post for the Barnum and Westwood areas of Denver at Dr Ansel G Prater's medical office (with 8-10 pote4ntial members)
Our charter members consisted of 30 members who petitioned Nation Headquarters to grant us a charter to be known as Westwood Post #193, later changed to Cummings-Prather Post #193 prior to our charter being granted (John Cummings Jr, US Army, and Richard Prater, US Navy, were both killed in WW II) On December 5. 1946, Cummings-Prather Post #193 was dedicated.
Our charter was granted March 28, 1947 by Paul H Griffith, National Commander and Donald G Glascoff, National Adjutant, and countersigned April 11, 1947 by H E Waring, Department Commander and M L Lycolm, Department Adjutant.
The present property was purchased in 1959.
An addition was built an dedicated to Gilbert Hamilton on November 8,1970.Sgt Hamilton, Us Army, was a member of the Post and was killed in Vietnam. On July 13, 2010, It wa rededicated to include Walt Osborn, becoming Hamilton-Osborn Hall.
IN 1977, a 15,000 square foot addition was built and on August 24, 1977 was dedicated to Bob Hope, with him being an attendance. He stated that "this was the first time he was honored by having an American Legion Hall named after him".
In 1977, the Post served as the designated headquarters for several Departments at the National Convention.
