Another first for Post #5.  The Seward Post News in its July edition reported with the news lead of 'FIRST DISTRICT MEETING WITH THE NEW OFFICERS, HELD DURING CONVENTION.'  The first Western District meeting to be presided over by the new officers was called for by Commander Ralph Rider on June 4th, which was the opening date of the 39th, Annual Department of American Legion Convention, held in Seward.  The District Convention was previously held in the Legion Hall at Spenard on April 26th.

The minutes of the convention were not published yet so they could not be at the June 4th meeting.  There was however reported approximately 35 members in attendence, representing 10 of the 15 District Posts.

A financial statement was given by Adjutant Hoy disclosing that an account had been opened with the 1st National Bank at Seward in the amount of $123.31.  This money was accumulated from Delegate registrtion fees of the District convention in April and from donations toward the purchase of a set of District Colors.

During this time it was also announced that the newspaper - the Western District Inter-comm will be rgularly published and the cost for the estimated four page issue would be approximately $10.00.  This would include paper, stencils, ink and postage for mailing.  The first two issues of the paper had ben financed by Commander Ralph Rider and Adjutant H. Everett Hoy, both from Seward Post #5.

After much discussion on the subject at the convention, Commander Rider appointed a committee consistening of Fred Everett, Tom Moyer, Don Grinsell and Leo King to study the situration and submit a working plan whereby the money could be raised to support the Western District Inter-comm.
