» Post & Ladies Auxiliary donates land at 5th & G Streets to the USO in support of our WWII troops. The Post and Unit were obliged to meet in the Pioneer Hall or at the Third and F Street building, during the war years.
» The old church building was removed and in its place a beautiful log building was built. Huge golden spruce logs were hauled in from Palmer, Alaska. General Simon Bolivar Buckner, General of the Alaska Defense Command rolled the first log into place one snowy winter day in 1941, following Pearl Harbor. Servicemen and Legionnaires did the construction work. The building was completed in a short period of time; there was a beautiful natural rock fireplace and many Alaskan wild game trophies decorated the log walls.
» Post donates time and energies in support of the newly organized USO
» Legion members served with the National Guard and Civil Defense Units. Auxiliary members volunteered to work for the Red Cross at First Aid Stations
» Municipality donates second cemetery tract for burial of all Veterans.
» At the end of WWII the USO returns land at 5th & G Streets back to the Post
» Throughout the Forties, numerous Post members devoted their time to visit wounded and rehabilitating soldiers at the VA hospital.
» Post 21- (All Female Veteran's Post) is formed/chartered in 1949 from several female veterans at Post 1.
