For the third straight year, the 100th Anniversary was the subject of education and excitement at The American Legion’s national convention, held at the end of August. In the Exhibit Hall of the Baltimore Convention Center, National Headquarters staff and members of the national 100th Anniversary Observance Committee solicited passersby to start or update their posts’ pages on the Centennial Celebration website, adding to the more than 1,250 pages already on the site. Two workshops on Aug. 31 drew around 200 Legion Family members to hear Department of Connecticut Centennial Chairman Frazier Brinley talk about his experiences getting his committee off the ground. He made the point that that day marked 1,000 days until the start of the celebration. Input was given by both early adopters and those new to the Centennial project. And Mark Smith of A&A Engraving talked about the successful raffle programs of Centennial pistols and rifles, which are still available for purchase. All 55 departments are now represented on the website’s Post Index, with at least one post in that department having a page.
